Swiftwater Familiarization

Expect: 

We'll be standing riverside while I cover basic hydrology, river features and hazards. We'll discuss possible scenarios and you'll learn how to feel fully prepared on a river trip. I'll teach you self-rescue techniques and how to respond to help in a rescue situation for others. 

We'll do a few river crossings (walking strategically across the channel) and I'll demonstrate the whitewater (defensive) swim position and aggressive (self-rescue) swimming. You'll have a chance to practice each swimming style in the river.

PFD (personal floatation device)

River shoes- You can: wear old tennis shoes with no socks or wool socks, Chacos/River sandals with no socks or wool socks, buy neoprene socks to wear with tennis shoes or river sandals, or buy neoprene river booties. 

River clothes- Rain jacket + rain pants. Any garments made of non-cotton, synchilla, wool, fleece, capilene, etc.
